You Were Born to Create—and to Heal (Start where you are. Make what you feel. Let healing follow.)

Hi Reader,

Every creative journey begins the same way: with a single step. For many new artists, the biggest challenge isn’t lack of skill or experience—it’s the hesitation to begin.

This week, I want to remind you that just starting is the most important part. You don’t need expensive equipment, formal training, or even a clear plan (although if you’d like a plan to help you get started - I created an Artist Roadmap and will send it straight to your inbox when you book your complimentary one-on-one online mini-session with me by clicking on the button below).

What you need is permission—from yourself—to create without judgment.

💬 Why Starting Matters More Than You Think

1. Creativity Lives in Motion
Art is a living thing. It needs action to grow. You won’t discover your style, voice, or healing path until you begin exploring. Starting—even clumsily—unlocks doors you didn’t know were there.

2. The First Step Breaks the Fear Loop
Perfectionism, fear of failure, and self-doubt all thrive in the space before you begin. But once you make anything, you realize: nothing bad happened. You made something. You survived. You can keep going.

3. The Process Is the Point
Healing doesn’t come from making “good” art—it comes from engaging in a process that connects you to your inner self. Starting is your signal to your brain and heart that you’re open to that connection.

🌱 Healing Begins When You Begin

You don’t need a reason beyond because it helps you feel better. Creating art—however rough or raw—is a way of saying, “I matter. My voice matters.” It’s a self-gift.

Still stuck? Try this:

  • Set a timer for 5 minutes. Start journaling about whatever comes to mind. Stop when it ends.
  • Start humming for no reason and use your voice memos app. to record yourself, if you come up with something you like - it might later become a melody in your song!
  • Listen to a song that you love and rewrite a lyrical phrase that's about your life.

Start Small. Start Now. Start Imperfect. Just Start.

You don’t need to be ready. You don’t need to be confident. You just need to begin. The art will meet you where you are—and it will grow with you.

This is your moment. Let it be messy, healing, and real. You’re not behind—you’re right on time.

💡 Beginner Tips for Healing Through the Arts

1. Forget About ‘Talent’
Talent is a myth. Practice, curiosity, and courage are what matter. Every artist you admire started from scratch.

2. Make Art Your Safe Space
There’s no right or wrong here. No grades. No critics. Just you and your truth.

3. Let Your Emotions Lead
Sadness, joy, anger, grief—they all have color, shape, and sound. Follow them and see what happens.

4. Find Support
Whether it’s a friend, an online group, or a local open mic night, connecting with other beginners can help you feel braver.
